Hyperloop UPV 2023: MEAN WELL Shaping Future Transportation

Project Overview

At the 2023 European Hyperloop Week (EHW) held at the University of Edinburgh, the student team Hyperloop UPV from Universitat Politècnica de València showcased a full hyperloop prototype comprising:

• Kénos — a fully operational hyperloop vehicle

• Atlas — a vacuum-capable transportation tube

This comprehensive project was recognized as the most complete proposal in hyperloop history, earning 3rd place overall and a special award for innovative infrastructure design. The team, with nearly a decade of experience and over 50 students, continues to push the boundaries of next-generation transportation technologies.

MEAN WELL’s Impact

MEAN WELL’s power supplies were pivotal in enabling critical system functions:

• UHP-500-24 powered essential control boards responsible for vacuum pressure monitoring and leak detection, ensuring safe and precise operation of the vacuum tube environment.

• UHP-1500-24 supplied power for three onboard cameras and interior LED lighting, allowing real-time monitoring of the vehicle’s movement within the tube.

Despite challenges such as tube reassembly delays and overheating damages, the team’s resilience and MEAN WELL’s reliable products helped them meet tight deadlines and deliver a groundbreaking solution.
